From 1st to 3rd of May in Poland we have a long weekend. During these days we have two special days: Labour Day (May Day) and Constitution Day. This time in Poland we called Majówka (May- Days).
On July 14th 1889 in Paris, in the first international congress of socialist parties proclamate new holiday – May Day (on 1st of May). They decided to celebrate worker class. On next year, on 1890, also in Poland, we started to celebrate 1st of May as a Labour Day. Nowadays celebration of Labour Day have no conotation with socialism and it s just a free day.
More important day for Polish citizens is 3rd of May – Constitution Day. In Poland we have a first constitution which was adopted in Europe and second in the world. The first draft of the Polish constitution dates back to 1788.
