What to do during long weekend?

From 1st to 3rd of May in Poland we have a long weekend. During these days we have two special days: Labour Day (May Day) and Constitution Day. This time in Poland we called Majówka (May- Days).

On July 14th 1889 in Paris, in the first international congress of socialist parties   proclamate new holiday – May Day (on 1st of May). They decided to celebrate worker class. On next year, on 1890, also in Poland, we started to celebrate 1st of May as a Labour Day. Nowadays celebration of Labour Day have no conotation with socialism and it s just a free day.

More important day for Polish citizens is 3rd of May – Constitution Day. In Poland we have a first constitution which was adopted in Europe and second in the world. The first draft of the Polish constitution dates back to 1788.

What to do during Majówka?

In the times of Coronavirus we can’t do typical long-weekend activities like barbecuing or fishing, but we have some propositions for you:

  • virtual trip to museum. If you interesting in art you should visit websites of Louvre, Sistine Chapel or National Gallery of Art – Zachęta.
  • you fed up with sitting at home? Take a mask and go for a walk to Łazienki Królewskie.
  • It’s not a tool just for learning. Invite your friends to online party or share your screen to watch movies together.

We hope that you will spend this time safe and recharge your batteries before exams.
